A New Challenge

Hi, friends!  It’s been a while since I’ve posted.  Summer and autumn both have come and gone with nary a word.  Yes, I’ve thought about it–every day, in fact.  Like many of you, I often get consumed by the day-to-day routine of life, but I’ve also considered overhauling my blog.  I know, I just got started, pretty much.  I just passed the one year anniversary of my first post–yayy!!  When I first started the blog, I knew I had plenty to share with the world, but I feel I haven’t narrowed it down.  I want to serve you, my readers, and I’ve given much thought in how to do that.  So in the meantime, I’ve done nothing.  (I have, however, made lots of notes and mentally written a few things.)  So I’m sorry.

I’ve re-committed myself to write daily, whatever that looks like.  You guys may get little short snippets from me, and there may be a longer post in there once in a while, but there will be something daily for at least a month.  How’s that?  I figure that if I always wait until everything is perfect, until the sun is hanging in the sky just right, until my dog isn’t demanding my attention and trying to climb into my lap while I type (you should see what I’m dealing with this very minute, haha), until I have tons of time… well, it will never happen.  So here I am.  Habits are formed one day at a time, and much of my advice for success in life is centered around those very small changes and building and growing upon them.

Since today was my first day at this new challenge I’ve accepted, I was actually a little nervous, like I needed to come in and just blow it out of the water.  And then when my work day became longer and longer and my eye makeup was rubbed off and my eyes became tired to the point I just wanted to come home and crawl into bed, I thought, “Well, I’ll just start it tomorrow.”  Discipline is the bridge between goals and success (I don’t know who said that originally), so I didn’t let myself off the hook, and I hope you will help keep me on it, as well!  I’m keeping it real.  No excuses.

I’d love for you to help me out and send me questions or suggestions on topics you’d like to hear about.  You know that nutrition and forming great healthy habits in the kitchen are very important to me.  I’ve had some very crazy work days lately, but those established routines are serving me well!  My body is thanking me for giving it whole foods, but honestly, the holidays have been here, and we all know how hard it is to maintain structure and healthy habits during this time…getting back on track is a priority!

Here’s what I have found helpful… keeping fruit and vegetables available for a quick snack at all times.  Good, local (if possible) produce is a plus! Not local, but I’ve kept clementines on hand because they’re yummy, quick, and healthy!  Also, when I’m not picking my salad off my tower garden, I like to buy the salad kits from the grocery store when they’re on sale.  So many people say that eating healthy is expensive, but seriously, when I pay $1.49 for a great, flavorful salad that has 1-2 servings and it keeps me from eating something my body doesn’t recognize, I call that a win, what about you?!

Who’s ready to get back on track with me?  Whatever it is in your life that you want to work on, tackle it with small steps.  For me, I’m happy to have you along on this journey with me as we grow together.  I’m excited about this new challenge!  I don’t really establish resolutions for the New Year, though it is upon us.  I’m all about taking a step no matter what time of year it is. Let me know how I can best serve you!  Thanks so much!

xoxo!

  1. This is a great challenge! I’m starting the same January 1! Good luck to you! I’m going to follow your blog and look forward to learning with you. Although I write in many directions these days, my degree is in health education, so I’m interested in what you have to share. I think a fun question is what is one of your food fails and what did you learn from it? Best of luck with your challenge!

    1. Marielle, thank you so much for your positive feedback and encouragement! I had fun this morning thinking about my food failures, so I will definitely include some of those in a post soon–I’m so glad for those memories and that you’ve asked me to post about it 🙂
I would love to follow along with you on your blog, as well!
